Scripture: Isa 61:10-11 I will rejoice greatly in the LORD, my soul will exult in my God; For He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness. As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes the things sown in it to spring up, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations.

Story: Christianity aquired it's concept of the resurrection from Judaism. Long before Christianity existed Judaism taught that the day would come when the righteous would be resurrected. The Old Testament is full of referrences to the resurrection but they are hidden in Hebrewisms. Hebrewisms are allusions or word pictures that would have been understood by a readers in the past but sadly are lost to most readers today. These verses in Isaiah are an example. First notice that the writer rejoices in the Lord for the garments he has received. Garments received at the time of a wedding. Garments recieved at a time when the earth is bringing forth sprouts (fruit). A Jewish reader at the time of Christ, and before, would have seen the resurrection in this passage. As a matter of fact the resurrection was one of the philosophical differences that seperated the Pharisees and the Sadducees (Matt 22:23). I believe the wedding spoken of in this scripture is the marriage between Christ and His bride and it's the righteous who are being brought forth from their graves to attend this wedding. Actually they will be doing much more than just attending the wedding, for they will be the bride. Two verses filled with word pictures about the resurrection. Two verses filled with the hope that believers in Christ have, that the day will come when even death will not prevent them from seeing their Lord face to face.
